Collantes Wins Sunfish North Americans

It was impossible to take the number one spot from Sunfish World Champion Alonso Collantes who belongs to Peru. It was a proud moment for this champion as he led the Sunfish North Championship for all 3 days.

All his best efforts and dedications paid off and hence he came out in flying colors. He was overjoyed as he has always been a champion in his past races. The 2nd place was bagged by Paul-Jon Patin from USA. As per him, Alonso defeated all of them.

The winds on the final day sobered down with 13-18 knots. However, there was a havoc created by the chops and waves similar to a Yacht Charter in Greece! Managing such a tough situation, especially with steady wind shifts was not an easy task. However, the team stayed upright and sailed faster in comparison with the other boat.

The Rochester Canoe Club lead Doug Kaukeinen battled hard to stay in the 3rd position by standing against Rich Chapman who achieved the 4th place. The 5th place was achieved by Eugene Schmitt from the Bay Waveland Yacht Club. He has recently achieved victory in Port Charlotte in Florida in the Sunfish Midwinter Championship.

The best female award was given to Gail Murphy Heausler from Davis Island Yacht Club of Tampa with an overall finish of 25. The Top Youth award was given to Angello Giuria of Peru who was the winner of 2016 Sunfish Youth World Champion. Gustavio Alayon Rosario from Puerto Rico achieved the Sportsmanship Award as he had withdrawn from the best race voluntarily. He realized that hitting the boat before the start need a penalty turn and hence he did not do it. The Sunfish North Americans will take place in Chicago at the Lake Bluff Yacht Club. It was indeed an interesting competition and the winners were highly excited with their achievements.
